about

This music is 100% improvised live with no overdubs, straight from my heart.

The Winter Solstice always sharpens my sense of time passing, in a most welcome way. This feeling has been enhanced by living in the Champlain Valley of the Northern Adirondacks for the last 12 years, which in Winter closely resembles the polar regions with the frozen, snow-covered tundra of Lake Champlain and a near vacuum of frozen silence outdoors.

Back in 2014, soon after I first started playing the breath-controlled analog synthesizer that is the rare 1975 Steiner/Crumar EVI the solstice arrived, and it quickly became clear to me that this instrument expressed the feelings that this time evokes for me. Something clicks when I pick this instrument up during that time of year, and the music just flows, with a very specific character to it. The following year, I started performing solo concerts each year on the solstice, which were very well received by the community. As of 2022, it's been two years without those concerts, and I've felt the loss of that. It was cathartic for me as well as for the audience to share this kind of contemplative, meditative sonic space together during this magical time. Many people have told me they've also missed the annual solstice concert, hoping it can come back. Who knows? No one.

What I *can* tell you with assuredness is that the future and the past are figments of our imagination; all we have is this moment. Right now.

But: that moment is infinite and eternal.

Time is not linear.
Time is a moment.

I hope that you enjoy the music, and that it makes you feel something.

This album is dedicated to Thich Nhat Hahn, one of humanity's greatest teachers, who passed away during the making of this recording.
